Second Harvest Food Drive
Each year, around the middle of December, student council members collect bags of food or cash from participating students and parents for the Second Harvest Food Drive. They also monitor the amount of food and cash collected, and award points based on the quantity of each. We hope to motivate the community to contribute towards the Second Harvest Food Drive by offering a prize to the class with the highest amount of points, varying from pizza parties to doughnut parties.
Points are awarded based on these criteria:
$1 = 5 Points
1 lb = 2.5 Points
We would like to remind participants to avoid donating items in glass containers, or large bulk items such as rice, flour, or sugar.
For 3 years, West Valley Chinese Language School has won the Bronze Award (Second Harvest's award criteria can be found here), and is proud to announce a progressive increase in cans collected each year. Our goal is to provide for the less fortunate in hope of making a difference.
In 2013-2014, West Valley Chinese Language School is proud to announce it's advancement to the Silver Award for donation. This recognition will continue to push us forward to inspire parents and students to donate food and give aid to those in need. During the 2013 school year, we began the online donating option, making it more accessible and easier for parents to participate outside of school hours.
